The Dyson Supersonic Review

It's no secret among my friends and family that I hate washing my hair. As much as I want to stay clean and beautiful all day everyday, I hate washing my hair !

My hair style / wash routine usually goes like this :

Day 1 : Clean long flowy hair , sometimes straightened or curled
Day 2 : Relatively clean hair, losing the styling
Day 3 : Tied into a tight bun
Day 4 : Wear a hat
Day 5 : Fine, I'll wash my hair / Wear hat for another day

And the reason I hate washing my hair is not because I'm just a filthy person. It's really because hair wash, from beginning to end, takes up SO MUCH of MY TIME.

I'm not sure if you can tell from my photos, but I have a lot of hair. My hair is so thick that it's difficult for me to find hair ties that can tie up my hair effortlessly. As a result, while the actual washing of my hair is not so bad, the drying part is what I drag the most.

It normally takes around AN HOUR to dry my hair completely right after wash. My arms get super sore and I grow super impatient. I hence never blow dry my hair right after wash and will wrap it in a towel for hours before drying it with a blow dryer. Even if I visit a salon, the hair stylist usually asks for another person to blow dry my hair together.

Then Dyson happened.

The Dyson Supersonic happened.

The first time I turned on my Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, I thought of standing in front of a helicopter. That's how strong the air flow is ! It's so strong that when I point my Dyson towards the mirror, the air force pushes me backwards.

While regular hair dryers can get too hot when the air is too strong, or when you stay at the same spot for too long, the Dyson Supersonic does not. It actually has an intelligent heat control that measures air temperature 20 times a second by a glass bead thermal sensor, to prevent extreme heat damage to your hair. Because of this heat control, hair under Dyson can retain its natural shine and necessary moisture to keep your hair looking healthy.

If you wish to have a higher temperature for styling purposes, there are four precise hat settings ranging from 28C to 100C. Additionally, there are 3 speed settings that allow you to control the high-velocity airflow. It is greatly thanks to the focused jet of air travelling at 105mph that made possible the fast drying without extreme heat.

I mentioned that my arm usually gets really sore when drying my hair for a long period of time. Not only does the Dyson hair dryer reduces hair drying time, its physical weight is very well balanced ! Its motor is compactly stored in the handle of the dryer so that the center of gravity is much better when you hold it - to reduce arm fatigue during use.

The only improvement I wish for is its noise level. Because of the strong air flow, the Dyson can be a little loud when it's at the highest speed setting. But the noise is bearable and comparable to a regular hair dryer, so it's not too bad !

The look and packaging of any product is such an important buying factor for me. I often purchase things, even food, just for its unique packaging. The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer definitely stands out from the hair dryer crowd.

The Dryer I got is Dyson's Chinese New Year edition, which comes in Iron and Red in color. SO NICE, I'm telling you. It is stored nicely in a red oval shaped presentation case, with 3 attachment nozzles, a non-slip mat (which looks like an adorable mini matt), and a storage hanger.

The only bad thing about this is that hair dryer is usually a home use product, and I can't bring it around with me to show off to the public, hahaha. But it's so pretty and I want everyone to see it !

Honestly, just for the physical appearance of the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer alone, I will buy it. Its innovative and futuristic look is honestly to die for. Obviously, there's also the SUPER FAST drying power that reduces my hair drying time by half !  It does have a fairly steep price point, but if you have made up your mind to treat yourself to something luxurious yet practical, this is the perfect gift :)
